NeoTech Custom Font for iPhone 2.0

hi all..
i’m really pleased with myself right now.. i finally managed to put this custom font together for my iPhone..
i had this font on my 1.1.4 iPhone and absolutely loved it but the Helvetica fonts that came with 2.0 have a lot more glyphs [2000+] and thus the old custom fonts dint work with it..
so i made my own..

here’s the file NeoTech Custom Font iPhone 2.0 (5207)

installation:
CAUTION: If you do not know what OpenSSH, WinSCP, root , alpine are or if you haven’t used them before, you probably shouldn’t be doing this anyway..

Step 1: Install OpenSSH from Cydia (found easily in featured apps)

Step 2: Restart iPhone

Step 3: Use WinSCP to connect to the iPhone via your IP address Username:root Password: alpine

Step 4: Download this file NeoTech Font iPhone 2.0 and extract it to your desktop

Step 5: Navigate to the following folders on your iPhone using WinSCP or FUGU and rename the following files, adding .bak at the end [this is just a precautionary measure, you don't ever wanna lose your original files]

/System/Library/Fonts/Cache/Helvetica.ttf

/System/Library/Fonts/Cache/HelveticaBold.ttf

copy the files in the archive in these folders, make sure each file goes where it belongs.

Step 6: Restart iPhone

Step 7: Enjoy!

EDIT:
as some people may still be on 1.1.4 here’s the font for iPhone 1.1.4 NeoTech Font iPhone 1.1.4 (736)

UPDATE [08.23]:
the bug which caused password dots to not show has been fixed. please redownload and reinstall.. :)

    u know wht,

The time u take to write one blogpost = Time taken to make 2 joints.

So next time, instead of two posts write one, cause the remaining one will give u the time to make two joints and these two joints will give you the feel to write the 1 blogpost.. so r we clear

    1 Blogpost = 2 joints

This is so cool…. Thanks !…

I think fonts must be optimized for iphone, we can’t use every font… So i’ll be glad if you’d share cool fonts like this sometimes…

  10. Jerry Matanis Says:

    Thanks, i love it!

  11. gaurav Says:

@Josh: make sure the fonts have been replaced properly by comparing the filesize in bytes.. you can easily do this in WinSCP or Fugu. then make sure you Reboot the iPhone, Respring will not work for font change.

Can this work for any font on our system?  I was curious if Myriad was an option or futura?  I tried the renaming and reupdating on the iphone, but it just came up with blank icons with no text.  Thanks for any help!  :)

  18. DrTaru Says:

Guarav, this font is amazing, however there is no carachter for the bullet for password fields so it just shows up blank, otherwise this is great, please mod this to include that if possible

Anybody know how can i put the vodafone logo in my iPhone 3G (mine is italian!)

  26. gaurav Says:

    @b4rtman:
you can put the logos in the folder “/System/Library/Carrier Bundles/Vodafone_it.bundle
the black n white logo should be named FSO_CARRIER_Vodafone IT.png
and the color one should be named Default_CARRIER_Vodafone IT.png

  27. s199 Says:

    Hello there
i tried to install it via Cydia, but its not working, even if i reboot the phoen the font do not show up :/// any idea ??? (i dont use intelliscreen)

  28. s199 Says:

ok found why :), its not the font itself , just the keyboard image :/

  29. mcdj Says:

Anyone using this on 2.1?  (I am using the updated version) I’m losing a tiny bit of the font labels on the bottom.  The g is cut off on Settings, for example.

  30. mcdj Says:

NM.  Turned out to be a bad plist in the “font colors” app from cydia.  They defaulted it to 13px instead of 12px.

  31. aznblur Says:

Is there a way to do this via Winterboard instead of copying over the font?

  32. gaurav Says:

@aznblur: nope.. not right now.. and i don’t think it’ll be implemented through WB ever.. i hope i’m wrong..

  33. stephen Says:

everytime i try to get into the font directory
    it wont let me
    any ideas?

  34. gaurav Says:

    @stephen: are you using WinSCP?

  35. Roland Says:

I’m so happy with this font. Apple has done a great job with all other stuff such as Icons but this font kicks ass.
I want to use it on my Mac as well but it gives a conflict with Trebuchet because that is the Full Name. Any change of offering this font for Mac as well?

    Keep it up!

    Roland

  36. maique Says:

    great font, thanks a lot.

  37. dowork Says:

I cannot access the “/System/Library/Fonts/Cache” on my iphone (2.1 firmware). The folder “fonts” doesn’t exist…. Any ideas? I’m using Cyberduck.

  38. gaurav Says:

@dowork: i haven’t had this issue with WinSCP.. you could try browsing to the folder using MobileTerminal on the iPhone and if that works you could overwrite the font files from the terminal itself.

  39. ckman9 Says:

I have this for 1.1.4 works perfectly but on 2.1 the clock disappers and numeric battery does not display properly

    Anyone having the same problems?

  40. iVin Says:

@ckman9: I just replaced the fonts and all is propely displayed including the clock and the numeric battery. So it should work on fw 2.1. Have no idea what’s causing the issue for you, sorry ’bout that.

  41. Mohamed Says:

I installed the fonts in right folder on 2.1 firmware
however all applications’ tites had dissappeared + all apps crash when i try to enter them including settings ( i cant access any app)

  42. Jnz Says:

Same at Mohamed i have 1.21 and works but cant open any app….. any fix for that?
